Vancouver Rocks!

What a beautiful city! We walked in Stanley Park today and saw the aquarium. That was pretty cool I must say! Plus we were able to catch a dolphin show when we were there so pretty awesome I must say. Ok so I know you want to know what has happened since the last post so I will do it in point form....

* Departure from hotel was good, not too sad but it kind of hit me after we left.
* Final BBQ we had the night before we left was fun early on but way tooo many drunk people misbehaving for my liking.

* A little worried our ride to the airport wasn't going to show but eventually came (I hate those types of scares cause you have no control over them)

* Getting through baggage check and security at the airport was fine and the flight was good, even 20 minutes ahead of schedual but I still got the weird ear ache in my right ear when we are descending.

* Arrived at the hotel via the airporter in the late afternoon. Hotel lobby is small but nice, very friendly staff.

* Went up to our 'deluxe suite' that I booked and I have to say that it's technically not a suite and not as big as I thought it would be. The bedroom is only seperated by a small wall that only goes half way across the room, no door.

* After getting over intitial disappointment, Pas gave me some perspective and realized the room isn't that bad and neither is the view cause it really gives us a large scope of the city.

* Our Toilet overflowed in bathroom last night, back to disappointment but the staff handled it very well.

* Went for a walk around the downtown last night and boy was it warm out! Didn't even need my winter vest. Saw some beautiful sights!

* Had dinner at a cute little mom and pop restaurant called Casablanca's. It was mexican and it was goood!

* Today after Stanley park and Aquarium we ran into Stu and Carole as we were having a drink outside at a local bar and grill so they joined us for a drink and invited us to come out tomorrow night for Carole's birthday. Should be fun!

* Had dinner in the hotel dinning room tonight with Pas. Good food, nice waiter, service was slow. They forgot Pas' beer but was ok.

So far that's it! It's been pretty good so far. I purchased the Vancouver Entertainment Guide and we've been using a few of the coupons already and saving money. Look forward to tomorrow when we go to Chinatown!
Until tomorrow.... :)
Hali in 3 more days woooo hoooo!

Last day of Work! Really? I'm not dreaming!

Boy does this feel good, but kind of sad at the same time. I didn't realize how much it's really gonna suck saying goodbye to everyone. I already said goodbye to my GM, Patricia, Rosalie, and my supervisor, Madlen which was kind of interesting. At times I have really disliked this woman but lately she hadn't been bad at all. So when she said goodbye to me it was "Oh Alice Thank you so much for coming here and staying as long as you did. We're all gonna miss you" and she gave me a hug..than she said "sorry for some of those times that I was grumpy" and I just had to laugh and say "oh that's ok" But it was really nice to have her apologize.

Spent most of the morning cleaning my room. Gonna have to do some major laundry tomorrow and then finish cleaning my bathroom. It's kind of surreal since some of this experience is sinking in and some of it is not. Tomorrow we are having a big BBQ and tonight I think people are getting together for some drinks. I think it will be a nice send off. And Jonathan, God Bless him! Is taking Pas' snowboard to NS with him when he leaves on Monday so we don't have to lug it around with us. I'm really gonna miss him and I feel bad that I didn't hang out with him as much as I should have since he is a friend from back home. Oh well! Wow can't wait to get off work! Counting down...4 hours and 12 minutes left!

So we are pretty sure about it now but we are thinking about getting a car when we get home. Since there is no main transportation out there where we are we thought it would be best. So that's another thing we are going to need to orchestrate. Looking forward to getting home and going on Vacation. Can't wait to see everybody again!!!!

I knew there was a reason we were leaving

Today was my last morning shift at the Post Hotel Yeee hawww!!!! erh I mean....YEEEEE HAWWWW!!!!!! One more working day at the Post and 3 more days in LL and than it's Hello Vancouver and Nova Scotia!

I found out a couple more things today about my work place that I am not too proud of. One of the girls at the front desk was telling me that her friend (who works as a hostess at our restaurant) had a 'discussion' with her supervisor one day and they were debating about a certain topic (can't remember what it was about) Anyway, the girl said something to the supervisor about her point of view on this issue that he didn't agree with so his responce was "Well, The only thing you Germans just believe in is Hitler anyways.." She was shocked and offended, naturally. So she went to the owner of the company and instead of an apology from this supervisor all she got was "why did you go to the owner of the hotel?"
"Obviously" she said "I have a problem with my supervisor, I can't talk to you, so I have to go to the next person" He offered no apology whatsoever. Just that type of personality that always needs to be right. Anyway her and my friend at the front desk today went to speak with the general manager to send in their resignation. If I were them, I would have done the same thing too. As a supervisor or fellow human being, you don't ever make those remarks! I was so shocked to hear that! But I am happy for them that they are leaving too cause they were not happy here.

Another girl at work who is also a hostess told me she was given a letter from HR today saying that "Her services were no longer required and that she had to leave by April 19th" The reason for this letter is because the employer didn't believe that the girl had given enough notice when she booked her vacation in the last week of May (which she requested off way in advance) The end of May happens to be the Wine Summit event. I've never ever heard of an employer only giving an employee 3 days notice to vacat the property and terminate employement! It clearly states that an employee of 3 months to 2 years has to be given at least One Weeks notice or pay to compensate for the lack of notice which who knows if they are going to do. Can I just say that I AM SO GLAD TO BE LEAVING THIS UPSIDE DOWN TREEHOUSE OF A HOTEL!!!!!

Just so unimpressed! But I don't care cause I am outta here in 3 DAYS!!!! WOOOO HOOOO!

Part Three Accomplished! Yay!!!!

So by now everyone pretty much knows that Pascal's visa has been approved which just released about a 1000lb wieght off my cheast! He got the envelope yesterday and when I saw him at work he showed me the good news. I was soooo happy and relieved. Yay!!! It's finally confirmed! Pas is coming to the East Coast! At least for 6 more months. Who knows after that..but that's just all part of the adventure.

Things have been going well as far as things getting here on time, such as the visa, my gst cheques came. Plus the Vancouver Entertainment Book arrived at the Casacadia hotel where we are staying at so now I don't have to worry about not getting the coupons in time. Praise the Lord!

Can't wait! Only 2 more working days left and 4 more actual days in LL.

We had a great night last night. I went after work to see Jon sing at the LL Idol Kareokee contest and to my pleasant surprise I didn't miss his act (which I thought I would since I got off work at 11pm) Also when I got there there were all these people from the Post there as well, cheering him on! It was just a really great night and it was nice to have that just before we left. I think it was really good for Jonathan as well so he could see just how many friends he has at the Post.

Well off to work again. Stupid split, but I don't care. Soon I'll be done and on to the next chapter with Pas :)

Happy Easter!

Just got off the phone with Tina and before that my family who are currently at my aunt Jill's house having an Easter egg hunt. I feel a little home sick and I think I am the furthest away from home out of all my family right now. Oh well, soon I will be home enough. A week from tomorrow we will be leaving Lake Louise and on our way to Vancouver WHOOO HOOOO! So excited! Just bought the Vancouver Entertainment Book for 2009 and boy does it have alot of coupons from the look of it. Two weeks from yesterday we will be home in Nova Scotia. Wow! Time just flew out here!

I came into my house this morning and found someone had left a note on our counter saying "Hello Girls, There are 18 mini eggs over your living room and counter, see if you can find them all, Happy Easter!" I don't know who it could be. Maybe Ryan, our other roommate, or one of our friends. It was really cute though! Haven't looked for Easter eggs in a long time.

Well I wasn't suppose to work today but that changed. Now I'm working at 2:30 today. Oh well, there's one check in today. Looks like it will be another day of surfing the internet and getting paid for it. I guess I should go get ready for work.

Happy Easter Everyone! :)

Good Friday

I got the funniest Easter card from my mother yesterday. It`s a beautiful Christian card and when you open it she writes...`Dear Alice, Hope you have a lovely Easter and you remember that Jesus died for you on this day...and after that buy yourself some chocolate (she sent me a fiver) She continues...`Sorry for amount I sent you, I`m saving for a wedding and we`re in the middle of a RECESSION!!! Here`s to you, my daughter and he seemingly special friend Pascal.` I love my mom! I shared that with the people in my office so they know where i`m coming from.

Yay today is my day off and I`m planning on doing a whole lot of nothing. I should do some cleaning though, and go through my stuff that I`m taking and that I`m leaving, and I need to say goodbye to Mel since I didn`t do that last night. I`m also definatley calling some people today.
As well reflect on this day, Good Friday and remember what Jesus did. Wow, my day off doing nothing just turned into doing something.

:)

Ok, Is it the 20th yet?

I'm really itching to get on with my vacation. There is absolutely nothing to do at work and it's driving me nuts! Been looking online at things to do while we're in Vancouver. Really looking forward to seeing Chinatown, the Aquarium and of course Stanley Park. There's a card you can purchase actually that gets you into free to alot of these places but I don't think Pas wants to buy it so it may just be myself. The key is though not to plan too much so you don't feel rushed and stressed on vacation is what Pas says and I believe that too. I'm just so excited!!!

Ok for those of you counting down we are at 7 more working days left and 11 days left in LL. I heard today from Chloe that they are planning a big BBQ at Pinnacle on the 19th. That will be really nice. A chance to get to see everyone before we all go on our seperate ways and probably never see each other again. I'm really sad to leave everyone whom I've become really good friends with. You work and live together, you can't help but become close. But I am ready to move and explore new parts, meet new people. Fox Harb'r, I have a feeling will be really similar to Lake Louise in the fact that they are both small town resorts for the rich. The plus side is I will be close to home and Pascal will get a real Canadian experience. Lake Louise is almost like little Europe so he never felt like he was getting the full Canadian experience even though he has a Canadian girlfriend :)

Ok back to non work again. This is driving me nuts!

Sunday, April 5, 2009

Woo hoo only 9 more working days left and only 14 days in LL! But who's counting :)

Ok long title but at least you know where I'm at. So excited, plus we made the descision where we want to go on our vacation...Vancouver! We were planning on Vegas but with all the hassle with the visa process and everything we're just afraid we would run into some problems once we tried to get back into Canada. So better to be safe than sorry we're just gonna stick with good ole Canada. Plus I found a really good deal on a hotel in downtown Vancouver. We're staying at the Cascadia Hotel and Suites (http://www.cascadiahotelvancouver.com/) Looks like a very nice hotel and we get a free buffet breakfast every morning and high speed internet in the rooms. I booked us in a superior suite with queen bed, full kitchen, guest room and balcony for $119.00 a night on expedia. So excited! Got a good deal on our flight to Vancouver too, $89.00! Looking at flights now going from Vancouver to Hali and looks like they're all getting in pretty late.

I'm so looking forward to coming back. Pascal I think is a little nervous but is also looking forward to coming to Nova Scotia.

Wow! What a cliffhanger last night! Watched the final episode in the first season of Supernatural. It's a good thing Jon has the second season lined up for us.

Cold is almost gone. Pas and I are feeling much better. Pas still has a bit of his cold and mine's on the way out...thankfully!!!

I'm off tomorrow and good Friday. Gotta go through my stuff and find out what I don't want anymore and what I'm taking...oh the joys of moving again.

Well that's it for now :)

**Cough, Cough**

Yes, I still have this blasted cold! Poor Pascal though is worse than I am. He has a scratchy throat, all stuffed up and painful coughing :( I really hope this sickness is over soon for both of us. What is really rough is that we both have to work since both our departments now are short staffed and we feel guilty for calling in sick. The hotel doesn't actually give us sick days which is really frustrating so unless you want it to affect your pay, you better come to work and get everyone else sick. In fact, a good percentage of the staff are already sick with this cold. That's the hotel industry for you. Once one person has it soon everyone will have it.

So Pascal and I are really getting into the Supernatural series. In a way, I find the story line really interesting, but the computer graphics for some of the monsters, demons, spirits, etc...are really bad and so are some of the guest actors. The two main guys are alright. Don't think I'll get to see any episodes tonight for I have to work early in the morning and am currently at work now. Oh well, at least I have the evening off tomorrow.

19 more days left here in good ole Lake Louise. I'm really going to miss everyone and it's going to be really hard to say goodbye. However, I think for our own sanity it will be good to leave. Pascal is looking forward to seeing Nova Scotia but is maybe a little overwhelmed at the thought of having to meet all my friends and family. Not all at once of course but I think just meeting my mom is making him anxious. He'll be fine. He is such a sweetheart! It's funny...I had my mom on speaker phone the other day and Pascal was sitting beside me at the time (I didn't tell her he was there) She was like "Oh I got your pictures you sent me! They are very nice! Pascal looks like he has a good heart!" I think he really liked to hear that. Hopefully that would have calmed his nerves a little :)

Working 6 days in a row this week, but I don't care, It's almost over. Have to talk to the girls maybe tomorrow or Friday since I was too sick to call in the last couple of days. Hopefully we can plan a time for everyone to get together for a visit before Pascal and I head on to Fox Harb'r (Provided the visa goes through)

Well that's it for now!
